Claremont, CA – June 03, 2026 – Pelekinesis is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Such Great Heights, new nonfiction from David Allen, available September 1, 2026 worldwide.

Such Great Heights brings together 75 of David Allen’s best columns from the pages of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin from 2011 to 2015. Go exploring with the Inland Empire’s best-known chronicler as he gets the scoop on local mainstay Vince’s Spaghetti and introduces you to the Scripps College student who became Twin Peaks’ Log Lady.
Consult a map as you marvel at how the surf song “Wipe Out” originated in Cucamonga and Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention was born in Pomona. Portraits of a blues musician, a city executive, a former showgirl and a cop still working in his 70s bring you so close, you won’t need binoculars.
In more personal exploits, David Allen belatedly acquires his first cell phone, serves as principal for a day at a high school and soars overhead in a hot air balloon, anxiously. For readers of Such Great Heights, the horizons are unlimited, and so are the pleasures.

Such Great Heights by David Allen will be available through Baker & Taylor, Bertrams, directly from the publisher's website, and in fine local bookstores worldwide.

About the author

David Allen has been chronicling the Inland Empire, however you define it, since 1994. After starting his career in Northern California, he moved south to the Victor Valley Daily Press before landing at the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, his home base since 1997. His popular three-times-a-week column covers people, places, government, history and more with a light and humane touch.
Besides the Daily Bulletin, his columns appear in print and online in The Press-Enterprise, The Sun, the Redlands Daily Facts and other Southern California News Group newspapers. Some of his columns are collected in five earlier books: Getting Started: 1997 to 2000, On Track: 2001 to 2005, Waving at Strangers: 2006 to 2010, Pomona A to Z and 100 Years of the Los Angeles County Fair, 25 Years of Stories, all published by Pelekinesis.
He lives in Claremont while also considering himself a citizen of Southern California. Does Such Great Heights represent the summit of his career? He’d say there’s always another peak ahead.
